High-K adakitic granite in post-Gondwana collisional stage: example for the Vengen Granite, Sør Rondane Mountains, East Antarctica

چکیده

The Vengen Granite, one of early Paleozoic granitic rocks crops out the southern end ridge, Kanino-tsume Peak at Main Shear Zone (MSZ) Sør Rondane Mountains, East Antarctica. This granite is composed medium- to fine-grained mylonitic biotite and cuts MSZ Zone. two-mica dykes locally intrude Granite. have foliations parallel Granite plagioclase, quartz, K-feldspar, biotite, muscovite with trace amounts titanite, allanite, apatite, zircon opaques as accessory minerals. geochemically characterized by a high-K content, which resembles adakitic affinity. These chemical data combined rare earth elements Sr-Nd isotope geochemistry suggest that source magma was derived from partial melting meta-tonalite minor pelitic gneisses in SW-terrane subducted under NE-terrane during collision West Gondwana continents.

Diversity of Phototrophic Genes Suggests Multiple Bacteria May Be Able to Exploit Sunlight in Exposed Soils from the Sør Rondane Mountains, East Antarctica

Microbial life in exposed terrestrial surface layers in continental Antarctica is faced with extreme environmental conditions, including scarcity of organic matter. Bacteria in these exposed settings can therefore be expected to use alternative energy sources such as solar energy, abundant during the austral summer. Using Illumina MiSeq sequencing, we assessed the diversity and abundance of fou...

Mineral chemistry using for evaluation of the Esmaeilabad granite generation in the Posht-e-Badam area (Central- East Iranian Microcontinent)

The Esmaeilabad granitic body with the Late Triassic age is situated in the central part of the Posht-e-Badam block (Central- East Iranian Microcontinent), in the northeastern of the Yazd Province. This granitic body cross cut the metamorphic rocks of the Posht-e-Badam complex and covered by the Cretaceous limestone. Rock forming minerals of the studied granites are K-feldspar (orthoclase), pla...

Emanation from Granite Countertops

Emanation of radon ( 222 Rn) from granite countertops was measured using continuous and integrating radon monitors, and in air collected from encapsulated pieces of the countertops. A majority of the countertops emitted a measurable amount of radon. Although the granites contained the precursors, no thoron ( 220 Rn) emanation was detected. Gamma-ray spectroscopy was used to determine amounts of...

Earth's youngest exposed granite and its tectonic implications: the 10–0.8 Ma Kurobegawa Granite

Although the quest for Earth's oldest rock is of great importance, identifying the youngest exposed pluton on Earth is also of interest. A pluton is a body of intrusive igneous rock that crystallized from slowly cooling magma at depths of several kilometers beneath the surface of the Earth. Therefore, the youngest exposed pluton represents the most recent tectonic uplift and highest exhumation....

Weathering of Stone Mountain Granite

The weathering of Stone Mountain Granite (adamellitc) forms kaolinite, endcllite, allophane and gibbsite of which kaolinite is the most stable. Bulk density ranges from 2.65 in fresh rock to a minimum of 1.48 in saprolite. It is a good index of weathering. Abrasion pH ranges from 5.0 in saprolite to 9.3 in fresh rock, and is direct]y related to bulk density and the amount of clay mineral. Among...
